Storm Damage Repair in Central Florida
Same-day emergency tarping, storm damage repair, and dated documentation you can give your insurer.
The first hours after a storm
Stop more water getting in. Your policy expects you to take reasonable steps to prevent further damage, and a tarp over the damaged area is the usual one. We can often tarp the same day.
Photograph everything before anything is cleaned up or moved: the roof from the ground, debris in the yard, ceiling stains, wet insulation and damaged belongings. Keep receipts for anything you spend protecting the house.
Do not climb onto a wet or damaged roof yourself. Storm-damaged roofs hide soft decking and loose material.
The order that protects your claim
Report the damage to your insurer before you authorize permanent repairs. Temporary protection is fine. Replacing a roof before the adjuster has seen the damage can make the claim harder to prove.
Florida now requires notice of a new hurricane or windstorm claim within one year of the date of loss. That is shorter than it used to be, so do not wait on a roof you suspect was damaged. Check your own policy for its specific terms.
Hurricane deductibles in Florida are usually a percentage of the dwelling coverage rather than a flat amount, so a named storm can mean a much larger out-of-pocket figure than your standard deductible.
What we do and what we cannot do
We inspect the roof, document the damage with dated photographs and a written description, and can be there when the adjuster walks the roof so the same damage gets looked at. We tell you plainly whether the damage is storm-related or ordinary wear.
We do not negotiate your claim. In Florida, negotiating a claim on your behalf is limited to licensed public adjusters and attorneys. Policies issued since 2023 no longer allow you to sign your insurance benefits over to a contractor, so you stay in control of the claim.
No Florida contractor can legally offer to waive or cover your deductible. Anyone who offers is breaking the law.
Wind is the usual culprit
Most storm damage we see in Central Florida is wind: lifted or missing shingles, broken tile, bent flashing, and damage from falling branches. Lifted shingles can look fine from the ground once they settle back down, while their seal is broken underneath. That is why an inspection after a storm is worth having even if nothing looks wrong.

Common questions
Should I call my insurer or a roofer first?
Protect the house first, then report the claim. A tarp is temporary protection. Permanent repairs should wait until the damage is documented and reported.
Will a roofer handle my insurance claim?
A contractor can document damage and meet the adjuster. Negotiating the claim itself is reserved for you, a licensed public adjuster or an attorney.
What if the damage looks minor?
Have it inspected anyway. Wind can break the seal on shingles without visibly removing them, and the leak shows up months later. For more, read our guide to storm damage and roof insurance claims in Florida.
